Yoga Mat Side Training Program for Teachers

AJ Durand helping student with injury

Yoga is for every body.

But the typical group vinyasa class is not always accessible to everyone.

The Balance Yoga Mat Side program is for yoga teachers who are interested in refining their teaching skills to work with special populations and individuals with specific physical limitations.

The core of the Mat Side program is the idea that through the development of a relationship between the yoga teacher and student, you’ll create an individualized practice for your students.

This gives your students a clear path to realizing the therapeutic benefits of yoga for many common ailments.

If you are a yoga teacher who is interested in the applying a skillful approach to your teaching amidst common injuries, diagnoses and contraindications in individual and group contexts, then this program is for you.

Over eight sessions amounting to 44 contact hours, you will learn:

  • check
How to apply ethics and responsibilities of the therapeutic aspects of yoga
  • check
How to identify and understand common diagnoses
  • check
How the subtle body, fascia system, and psychosomatics work in our bodies
  • check
How to conduct consultations and develop individualized yoga programs
  • check
How to develop the skills needed for private instruction
  • check
How to use props to maximize the therapeutic benefits of yoga
  • check
How trauma and grief affect the body
  • check
How to take care of yourself when you're working in a therapeutic context

The Mat Side program will provide you with a solid foundation for teaching special populations. You will learn the theory behind the therapeutic application of yoga and gain hands-on experience during three or four  clinical sessions, where you will work one-on-one developing relationships with individuals from the community.
