Note from Jessica: Some of you might attend Yoga on the Levee Saturday. If you’d prefer to practice in your hOME in mid-city, join us for a class full of heart-openers led by Courtney Kappes. Class cards, donations, or any heartfelt contribution accepted. Here’s a touching story about yoga from Courtney.
Eleven years ago on August 4th I fell in love with New Orleans.
I moved to New Orleans August 4, 2004 to attend graduate school. In my first month here, I had my first snowball, danced in a second line, and evacuated for my first hurricane (it took 12 plus hours to get to Lafayette).
Jump ahead 14 months and a couple of weeks–I’ve suddenly relocated to Boston (challenging for a young women who grew up in Arizona and then lived in New Orleans). Struggling to find my community, and mourning a city I had fallen in love with, I was reading an article about physical contact between various cultures. It dawned on me that I had not a physical contact with anyone in over a month (not even a handshake let alone a hug).
I decided to head to a yoga studio knowing that I would be adjusted in the class. Thus, my yoga practice began…and I found the community I was desperately seeking.
And the clarity to see that I needed to return to New Orleans.
Please come to Balance this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and find your space, to practice.
